What it actually is
An Acer ChargeMate: a padded sleeve for 13 to 16 inch laptops with an integrated wireless charging pad, designed so the flap folds out into a charging surface for a phone or earbuds while the laptop is in use.
Who it's for
People who work in cafes and co-working spaces and are tired of carrying a separate charging pad. The idea is sound โ the sleeve is already on the table, so the charging surface may as well be part of it.
The honest downside
Multi-function accessories almost always compromise on the primary function, and this is a sleeve first. Check the padding is genuinely protective rather than token. The charging pad needs its own cable to a power source, so it does not remove a cable from your bag, it relocates one. And wireless charging through a case can be unreliable.
Check these before you buy
- Padding thickness โ the charging layer can eat into protection
- Charging wattage, which is often modest and slow
- That your laptop size is genuinely covered, not just at the edge of the range
- Whether it charges through your phone case or you must remove it
Verdict
A good idea, but judge it as a sleeve. If the padding is thin, walk away.
