Magnetic Handheld Cooling Fan
Snaps onto the back of your phone and blows hard enough to be heard. Absurd in March. Non-negotiable by mid-May.
Magnetic Handheld Cooling Fan
Snaps onto the back of your phone and blows at 9,000 RPM. Solves a problem you did not have until the first week of May.
What it actually is
A palm-sized rechargeable fan with a magnetic back that grips a MagSafe phone or a metal plate, running at three speeds up to around 9,000 RPM. It charges over USB and can be held, stood, or stuck to the phone while you scroll.
Who it's for
Commuters, anyone waiting on a platform, and everybody who has stood in a queue in a north Indian summer. The magnetic mount is the actual innovation — it means the fan points at you without occupying a hand.
The honest downside
At the top speed it is loud, and loud in a way that people around you will notice on a quiet train. Battery life at maximum is short, often under two hours, and the magnetic grip needs a genuine MagSafe phone or a stuck-on ring — a plain plastic case will not hold it.
Check these before you buy
- Whether your phone or case is actually magnetic, or the fan will simply fall off
- Runtime at the highest speed, not the advertised figure at the lowest
- Noise complaints in reviews, which are the most common criticism
- Charging port type and whether a cable is included
Verdict
Silly for nine months of the year. Indispensable for the other three.
