Retro Phone Handset for Your Mobile
A proper corded receiver, plugged into a modern phone. Take a call on it in public and watch the room turn around.
Retro Phone Handset for Your Mobile
A proper corded receiver that plugs into your phone over Type-C. Take the call like it is 1994 and watch the room react.
What it actually is
A wired telephone handset with a coiled cable and a Type-C plug, with a microphone, volume control and an answer/end button on the handle. It works as a standard USB audio device, so there is no app and no pairing — plug it in and it becomes the phone's earpiece and mic.
Who it's for
It started as a novelty and became genuinely popular with people who take long calls. Holding a wide handset is far more comfortable over an hour than pinning a glass slab to your ear, it keeps the screen away from your face, and the earpiece is loud enough to hear over an Indian street.
The honest downside
It is a cable, and cables tangle. The coiled cord is short by design, so you are tethered to wherever the phone is sitting. And it will only work with Type-C phones — Lightning and 3.5mm variants exist but are sold as different products, so buying the wrong one is easy.
Check these before you buy
- Your phone's port — Type-C models will not work on an iPhone with Lightning
- That your phone supports USB audio output, which a few budget Android models do not
- Cable length, usually 1 to 1.2 metres uncoiled
- Whether the answer/end button is confirmed working on Android, as support varies
Verdict
The rare novelty that earns its place by being more comfortable than the thing it replaces.
